The lawn at Pearl Bay, set for a ceremony above a Devon bay

South Devon

A private bay for the day you mean to remember

Pearl Bay is a honey-stone house on the South Hams coast. The lawn faces the Channel. The hall is licensed. The estate is yours alone.

The estate

Not a hotel. A house that keeps the sea.

Pearl Bay sits above a sheltered crescent on the South Devon coast, a short drive from Kingsbridge and within reach of the main line at Totnes, Plymouth and Exeter.

Couples take the whole place. There is no other wedding in the next room, and no function suite with a carpet from 1998. Civil ceremonies are licensed on the lawn and in the hall. If the weather turns, we simply move inside — the view stays.

The house sleeps the couple and eight guests. We hold rooms at two inns in the nearest village for everyone else, and we keep a short list of Devon caterers, florists and musicians. You may bring your own, with our approval.

Spaces

Four rooms, if you count the lawn.

The south-facing lawn at Pearl Bay, set for a ceremony above the bay

The Lawn

Up to 140 seated

A wide south-facing lawn above the bay. Civil ceremonies here look straight out to the Channel, with the house as a quiet backdrop.

The licensed hall with sash windows, laid for a wedding breakfast

The Hall

Licensed indoors

The wedding breakfast room: sash windows, sea light and a table long enough for the speeches to land properly.

The Terrace

Drinks & supper

Stone underfoot, the bay in front of you. Drinks before dinner, or a smaller supper when the weather holds.

The bridal suite at the front of the house, with a view of the water

The Bridal Suite

Couple’s rooms

A quiet room at the front of the house. Morning light, a view of the water, and the day starting slowly.

    Evening

Lanterns on the lawn. A small band or a very good record player. Carriages by midnight.

2027 season

Saturdays still open.

English weddings here are almost always Saturdays. Open dates can be held with an enquiry. Weekday ceremonies are quieter, and usually possible — say so in your note. The 2028 book opens in January.

Choose a Saturday to carry it into your enquiry.

From the book

What couples mention afterwards.

We wanted the sea without a hotel corridor. Pearl Bay felt like someone’s house that happened to face the Channel.

Hannah & TomJune, South Hams

The lawn ceremony was the thing we had pictured for two years. When the cloud lifted, it was exactly that.

Priya & JamesSeptember

Our parents are not ‘destination wedding’ people. An hour from the A38, a proper breakfast, and beds upstairs. That was the brief, and they met it.

Tell us the Saturday.

We reply within two working days. A first visit is an hour on the lawn and a cup of tea in the hall — no presentation, no hard sell.
